On April 4, 2025, Civil Protection drills were conducted in Cahul District with the participation of the Emergency Situations Commission, the Territorial Command Center, Civil Protection Services, economic units, educational institutions, as well as representatives of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) and the Cahul SE Directorate.
The exercises were carried out in accordance with the Drill Plan "Actions of the Management Bodies and Civil Protection Forces of Cahul District in Organizing the Response to Earthquakes, Catastrophic Floods, Industrial Accidents, Major Hazardous Substance Incidents, and Epizootics."
The drills aimed to train and improve the structures responsible for emergency management, test response capabilities, and optimize coordination in case of natural disasters or major accidents. Intervention procedures, data collection and analysis, as well as decision-making to mitigate the impact of potential disasters were tested.
The simulations included complex scenarios such as a major earthquake with an epicenter in the Vrancea zone, causing severe damage, road accidents, and gas leaks in Cahul municipality, a dam breach and floods in Crihana Veche village, as well as a large-scale fire in a waste storage area. Rescue teams acted to save victims, extinguish fires, evacuate the population, and minimize damage.
In the end, the drills concluded with a debriefing session by the Cahul District Emergency Situations Commission, where the actions taken and the effectiveness of the interventions were analyzed. The exercises highlighted the importance of a rapid and well-coordinated response in emergencies, strengthening the capacity of responsible institutions to act efficiently in protecting the population and local infrastructure.
