Today, the cross-border project “ History Joins Us” was launched, implemented by the Galați County Council in partnership with the Cahul District Council and the Euroregion “Lower Danube” Cross-Border Cooperation Association. The project, supported by over €1 million in European funding, aims to restore the monumental complex in Roșcani dedicated to Voivode Ioan Vodă cel Viteaz, a symbol of courage and the fight for the independence of Moldova during 1572–1574.
As part of the initiative, the bronze statue created by sculptor Gheorghe Turcu, inaugurated in 1976, will undergo expert evaluation, reinforcement, and restoration. In addition, the three-tiered platform, the monumental staircase with 28 steps, the parking area, access routes, and the surrounding area will be rehabilitated. The investment seeks to highlight a shared cultural landmark for communities on both banks of the Prut River, contributing to the protection of the region’s historical and cultural heritage.
The project includes 12 joint cultural events, including history lessons for 600 students, the creation of an album featuring lesser-known local stories, experience exchanges with tourism and heritage specialists, and activities promoting local traditions and values. These initiatives will strengthen cross-border cooperation and contribute to reinforcing a shared cultural identity.
The launch event was attended by the Cahul District Council delegation, including Ms. Tatiana Seredenco, Vice President of Cahul District, Ms. Violina Mîțâblândă, Acting Head of the Economy and Investment Attraction Directorate, and Ms. Cristina Ghindă, Senior Specialist of the same directorate.
